If you are seeing the SSN already in use message this is likely because you have started two returns for 2024, you need to press Work With Filing on the Tax Center page. This is a blue button in the grey square. Select Work With Filing on the return that displays the last 4 of your SSN. Do not press Start a New Return or Extension.

Another possibility you are seeing the "SSN is already in use" error message is because there has already been a return started with your SSN. Users often try to start their return twice with our commercial or IRS Free File link.
Generally those that wish to file through our IRS Free File site unknowingly begin a return through our commercial site. Both sites are FileYourTaxes.com.
Free File partners are required to have different links to be an IRS Free File provider. Our system will not allow you to start 2 returns with the same SSN.
